Public Lecture from UKM Malaysia to welcome new students of IPAcc

International Program for Accounting (IPAcc) is one of the international class programs at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY). To encourage student learning activities as well as to introduce international environment as part of the academic activities of IPAcc Program, IPAcc UMY invited foreign lecturers from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia UKM), as the speaker in public lecture on Friday (20/10) at E7.B Building Room KH Ibrahim Building, UMY.
Assoc. Prof. Noradiva Hamzah is senior lecturer at the Economics and Management Faculty, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Noradiva is competence if the field of accounting theory and financial analysis. In the general lecture related to the analysis of financial information and attended by 100 accounting students of UMY, she explained in detail about the detection of fraud through financial analysis.

“Fraud is a deliberate act by one or more individuals among management, those responsible for governance, employees or third parties that involve the use of fraud to gain unfair or illegal benefits.” Noradiva said. Noradiva added cheating is different from mistakes. Errors are not accompanied by attempts to cover or hide errors, whereas cheating involves covering devices such as collusion, forgery, deliberate omission or misrepresentation.

“Cheating behavior in the presentation of important financial statements is of concern in order for these actions to be detected and eliminated. So that the financial statements will be trusted by the stakeholders and the community. In addition, the auditor will be able to improve the quality of the audit and gain the trust of the interested parties and the community.

This event received good attention from the participants which many students are enthusiastic for asking questions related to the topic. Public lectures with foreign speaker will become routine agenda for accounting program as a means of improving the knowledge of accounting students of UMY.
