Examining Accounting Phenomena with Qualitative Research Methods

Tuesday (06/03) Accounting Study Program has held Workshop “Qualitative Research Methodology of Case Study of Potential of Local Tax”. This workshop was delivered by Dr. Icuk Rangga Bawono, S.H., S.E., M.H., M.Si., Ak., CA. He is a lecturer at Sudirman University, Purwokerto. He is also a practitioner and researcher in the field of public sector accounting. This workshop was attended by 100 students and some Accounting lecturers.

The workshop was opened with remarks delivered by Mr. Ahim Abdurahim who is the head of UMY accounting study program. Furthermore, the workshop deliver by Dr. Icuk with Mr Afrizal Tahar as moderator.

In this workshop he discussed many things about governance in Indonesia and also discussed many cases in Indonesia regarding local taxes and local governance. He also provides ways of research with qualitative methods that are rarely performed by accounting students because  accounting students generally do research using quantitative methods. Dr. Icuk also provide tips for students in doing thesis fluently.

At the end of the workshop sessions some students asked questions about the research they took in the public sector as well as Dr. Icuk and students discuss the cases or phenomena that exist to be a research.

At the end of the event Mr Afrizal Tahar as the head of the committee gave a souvenir and a certificate to Dr. Icuk. After that, workshop participants took a photo with Dr. Icuk.

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce more research with qualitative methods to accounting students. Then it is expected to assist students in selecting and designing the research to be conducted.
