IPAcc invited Visiting Professor from Philippines

As an effort in improving the quality and capacity of accounting students, International Program of Accounting, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (IPAcc UMY) invited Assoc. Prof. Rodiel C. Ferrer from De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines as visiting professor to teach Financial Accounting course in IPAcc. Assoc. Prof. Rodiel C. Ferrer is a financial accounting expert in the implementation of International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS), the international standard of financial statements that is obligatory for companies in Commonwealth Country and is enforced in many countries including Indonesia. The presence of IFRS expert from Philippines was hoped to increase the students’ understanding of how IFRS is implemented in other ASEAN countries.
 
According to Peni Nugraheni, S.E., M.Sc., Ak., CA, Direcor of IPAcc UMY, the visiting professor program is one of IPAcc programs in increasing students’ study experience by inviting foreign lecturer. The objective is to enrich the materials for students besides increasing interaction in english. Moreover, Peni explained that Rodiel was not only lecturing in class, but also engaged in some activities organized by Department of Accounting UMY. He became the speaker in International Conference on Accounting and Finance (ICAF) 2016 seminar that has been a routine activity of Department of Accounting UMY and also General Lecture for Accounring students. In the General Lecture, Rodiel delivered materials about reseach topics in financial field and reseach metodology with  the participants of accounting students currently taking research design course. This lecture was expected to give ideas to students regarding research topic to be developed in making their thesis later.
 
In addition, Rodiel became the speaker in Scopus-Indexed Journal Writing Strategy Workshop that was attended by lecturers of Department of Accounting. Rodiel, which his articles have been published in international journal, shared tips in publising international journal and gave recommendations for lecturers’ paper. According to Rodiel, UMY has a great academic atmoshere so that the collaboration between UMY and De La Salle University can be continued in the future.
